Rebecca Coombes Counselling

I have always wanted to help people. It is a privilege to support others and sit across from people as they tell their story. However, I do not take this experience lightly; my own therapeutic experience has demonstrated to me how much courage, trust and discomfort there is to speak about your fears, pain and challenges. Having sat where my clients have sat, I understand the value and importance of connection within this space.

Through my professional and personal journey, I have found connection to be the foundation of strong relationships. This connection may come in many forms. For some, it may mean we lean in towards others when we are distressed, rather than away. Perhaps it is understanding why our grief causes us so much pain and honour this. And for others it could be giving ourselves permission to take time out of the day for ourselves – even if we don’t believe we should. Connection means we feel heard, valued and understood within ourselves and by others.

At the very core of my therapeutic practice is connection. For me, this means connecting meaningfully with my clients as they explore and unravel life’s challenges.

When I began my professional career, I felt it was important to be specific and focused in my field. I chose to specialise in Relationship and Bereavement Counselling, as these are the areas that can be the most challenging for us to sit with – and often the place we need the most support. This is why I have spent many years working with families, couples and individuals, and supporting them as they work through life’s challenges. I take an integrated and holistic approach in my practice by drawing on several therapeutic models and theories, whilst monitoring and being responsive to the individual needs of my clients.

I believe as a counsellor, it is important to continue to learn and grow. To develop personally and professionally; for myself and my clients.
